ATM and Debit Cards

Overview

Debit and ATM cards are two of the most popular ways to access money in your checking account. Apple River State Bank offers a debit card when you open your checking account. When you use a debit card, the money comes directly from your checking account, just like when you write a check. Debit cards will also usually double as your ATM card, allowing you to withdraw cash or deposit money at an ATM machine.

Debit cards can take the place of:

• Writing Checks
• Paying with Cash
• Using a Credit Card

Debit cards may look like credit cards with a MasterCard® logo on them. However, they are not credit cards. A debit card will not help you build a credit rating when making purchases because the money comes directly from your checking account.

Apple River State Bank offers a generic debit card, an Apple branded debit card as well as six local school mascot branded debit cards.

Instant Debit Card Activation Instructions

• To activate your card, call 1-800-717-4923 (Important: You must call from the phone number on file, either home or cell.)
• Follow prompts and enter card number followed by #
• Enter last 4 digits of social security number followed by #
• Enter expiration date
• Once activated it will ask you to choose a different PIN press 1
• Enter the 3-digit code on the back of the card followed by #
• Choose a 4-digit PIN followed by #
• Confirm 4-digit PIN followed by #
• Wait to receive confirmation number before disconnecting call
• Test card by performing a transaction at an ATM machine

ATM Card

Some banks offer you an ATM card that allows you to withdraw money from your checking account, but only through an ATM machine. Unlike debit cards, ATM cards do not have the MasterCard® logo and, in most cases, may not be used to make store purchases directly.

ATM cards give you easy access to your money but be careful because that easy access might cost you. For example, if you withdraw money from your account at your own bank's ATM, you probably won't pay any fees for that transaction. However, if you withdraw money from a different bank's ATM, you could get charged a fee from that bank as well as from your own.

Protecting your debit card and your funds is our top priority.  We’re constantly monitoring your account – we’ll send you a text alert if suspicious activity is ever detected on your Debit Card.  If you receive a test alert from us, make sure to reply Yes or No to confirm or deny the activity.  Please save these numbers to your contact so you don’t miss any alerts:

Lost or Stolen ATM/Debit Card

If you have lost your ATM/Debit Card or your ATM/Debit Card has been stolen please contact us at one of the phone numbers below.

Inform Us When You Travel

If you plan to travel outside your normal area, travel outside the U.S., or make online foreign purchases, please complete our Travel Notification Form below.

Alternatively, you may call (815) 745-2194 or (815) 777-6300 to inform us of your travel plans, or download our Travel Notification Form complete it and drop it off at one of our 8 locations. Please allow 24 - 48 hours for Apple River State Bank Travel Notices to be issued.

If you need a travel notice issued immediately, please call Apple River State Bank Fraud Operations at (815) 745-2194 and provide the card information requested in the table below.

When completing the Travel Notification Form double check the accuracy of the card numbers you enter on this form to ensure Apple River State Bank can implement your request in a timely manner. Enter the cardholder’s name as it appears on the card, the last four digits of the card number, the start and end dates for travel, and the travel states and countries.

Please provide a separate Travel Notification for each cardholder traveling.
