Spring Time in the South

7 Days---April 12-18

Day 1- We travel fly to  Charleston, South Carolina for a three night say. Tonight enjoy the evening at leisure.

Day 2-This morning  we discover historic Charleston on a riding tour which includes: The Citadel Military Academy, West Point Garden, Historic District and much, more. Enjoy  lunch at your leisure in The Old City Market Area where a variety of Southern delectable fare awaits you! This afternoon we visit Wadmalaw Island and the Irvin Vineyards situated among old oak trees dripping with Spanish moss shading the estate winery. We'll stroll though the vineyards as our host explains the process and aging of the wines from the only domestic winery in the Charleston area. Our next stop features The Charleston Tea Plantation--America's Only Tea Garden! See the making of tea in the factory as well as take a tour through the Tea Farm followed by a fresh glass of tea. This evening enjoy a dinner at one of Charleston's finest dinning experiences, Hyman's Seafood Restaurant.

Day 3-Following an included breakfast we depart for Middleton Place for a tour of the home, grounds and stable yard. Lunch is included featuring their signature Southern Buffet. We return to the historic district to board the boat for a cruise to Fort Sumter. The first shot of the Civil War was presumably fired from this fort. There will time to visit the museum, battery and observation areas of this historic fortress. Upon returning to Charleston the balance of the evening is free to explore the city on your own.

Day 4-Breakfast is included this morning before departing Charleston  enjoying picture stops along the way to Savanna, Georgia. Upon arrival we'll visit the famous market street area teaming with eateries and pubs. Later this afternoon we check into our hotel for our overnight stay in Savanna. Tonight we enjoy a wonderful evening of cuisine and historic sites as we have included a Progressive Dinner, Savannah style!

Day 5-Following an included breakfast we are going on a riding tour of Savannah with highlighted stops at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and Byrd Cookie Factory. Lunch is at your leisure along River Street before we travel on to Jekyll Island for our overnight stay. A Ridging tour of Jekyll Island and dinner at the Crane Cottage in the Jekyll Island historic district, where a a special guest, one of the wealthy "residents" will join us and take us back in time. 

Day 6-Breakfast is included this morning before exploring St. Simons Island with shopping time. Enjoy lunch on our own. Next we travel to the quaint community of Beaufort, South Carolina. A costumed guide will be our host as we tour this historic city where the plans took place for the separations of the states prior to the Civil War. Dinner will be at the popular Barbara Jeans restaurant. Our overnight stay this eventing will be in Charleston. 

Day 7- Breakfast is included this morning before we bid farewell to our southern experience we transfer to the Charleston International Airport for our return flight home in the late afternoon.

Experiencing the Holy Land

First Community Bank/Apple River State Bank is offering you a chance to walk the land of Jesus, to visit and worship at the places where Jesus lived and preached  Join us for this unforgettable experience! Your host will be Rev. Dennis Hill and Mary Roever-Hill. Both have been to the Holy Land. Mrs. Hill has taken groups there eleven times! Because of their extensive travel to this part of the world, they will be able to take you to places that are out of the ordinary.

You will visit places such as Capernaum, sail on the Sea of Galilee (worshiping on the boat), Nazareth, the Galilee region, Jerusalem. Jerico, Qumran (where the dead sea scrolls were found), Bethlehem, Tel Megiddo,  Caesarea, Dead Sea, Masada, and much more.  We will visit Jerusalem inside the walls, seeing the venders that were the same as when our Lord was alive. We will visit Mount Moriah, the Kidron Valley, Mount Olives, Garden of Gethsemane, the Upper Room, King David’s Tomb, the Jordan River, (where you may be baptized if you so choose) Mount of Beatitudes and so much more.

We will have several meetings before the date of departure. Rev. and Mrs. Hill will answer any and all questions. I know the first question will be is it safe  to go to that part of the world? The answer is: yes it is safe and at our first meeting this topic will be explored in depth.

The first meetings will be Tuesday, January 29  at 1:00 at First Community Bank in Galena and at 6:30 in the Grant Room at Happy Joe’s in Galena. Plan to come, ask questions, and explore the possibilities of taking a trip of a lifetime—a trip that will change you forever.  You will never again be able to open your Bible and read the passages without remembering what you saw on this trip. You will relive this trip daily for the rest of your life. If you are to take only one trip during your lifetime, this is the one!

Nat's Friendship Gardens

10Wear your comfortable walking shoes and bring your camera; you are in for something extraordinary today! Nat has  invited us to explore her unique friendship garden. We will meet on Nat’s patio  at 12:00 pm and take turns  strolling  though her amazing  hillside garden, visiting  her fish, elephants, monkey and talking with her. You  will find an ever changing  assortment  of  plants.  A  light  lunch  will be served.  Anyone  interested  in participating in the plant/seed exchange bring plants / seeds to share. Reservations are a must!

 

Europe & More

Our first  stop of the day  will be at  Berres Brothers Coffee Roasters Café  and Factory Outlet where we will see how the beans  are roasted, flavored and packaged. Time will be allowed at the café for a quick  breakfast  and to  purchase  coffee etc.

The  Farmer’s Market is located  in the beautiful  Riverside Park and  is  one of  the area’s largest farmers markets. At  the Market you  will find  fresh cut flowers, annuals and  perennial flowers, the   freshest fruits, vegetables,  spices, honey, home baked goods, popcorn, crafts and so much more

The Market Specialty Shopping Mall  is a  true departure from the  traditional mall. The  Market Shoppe's are  set in an old-town  village-like atmosphere,  amongst  the artifacts of a bygone era. The Mall is a converted 1870s lumberyard with cobblestones walkways, plank boardwalks, street lamps and expansive exposed beams and pillars with numerous specialty stores.  

An optional  walking tour of the downtown area  will be available for those who would rather walk than shop! 

Lunch will be at the  Cobblestone Restaurant which offers  dining  with  Old World charm.  The Café is reminiscent of a charming European streetscape.

The afternoon starts  with a cooking demonstration  by the  famous chef,  Augie Majestro, who has run two restaurants  at the same time  plus a catering business. Sampling for everyone at the demonstration plus the recipes!  

A trip to  Wisconsin would not  be complete without a stop for  cheese and sausage.  Kraemer Cheese is famous for several of their cheese spreads.

One more stop before leaving the area is at Ebert’s Greenhouse Village, where we will  meander through their   vibrant gardens,  ponds,  waterfalls and  28 greenhouses packed  with  spectacular  hanging baskets, unique and  hard  to find  annuals,  and perennials, listen to  the birds chirping and the waterfall  trickling and relish a bit of paradise.

Mackinac Island & Frankenmuth

August 11-15

Day 1- A delightful day is in store for us as we become acquainted with our traveling friends and enjoy special activities  presented by our Tour Director. This afternoon finds us along the shores of Lake  Michigan near Saugatuck where we ride a specially modified Dunne Buggy over the Michigan Sand Dunes as our driver narrates the ecology and history of the area. After a thrilling experience we return to our motorcoach and travel the remaining miles to Holland, Michigan our home for the night. This evening we partake of a hearty Dutch style home cooked meal in Holland. 

Day 2 - After a filling breakfast we travel to Mackinac City where we board our ferry to cross the Straights of Mackinac to the charming community on Mackinac Island. As a national historic landmark, Mackinac Island is not only an ultimate retreat and vacation area, it is like taking a step back in time.  After settling in to the beautiful Island House  our home for for the next two nights, it is time for dinner.

Day 3- Following breakfast we begin our day on Mackinac Island with a narrated carriage ride around this turtle shaped island. We travel through the State Park to Arch Rock taking in the astounding views along the way arriving at Grand Hotel. Following lunch at  the  elegant Grand Hotel we have time to visit the gift shop, browse the gallery, and take in the incredible views from the front porch. 

Day 4- Today we ferry back to the mainland and reboard our waiting motorcoach. We travel to Frankenmuth, the "Little Bavaria of the United States". Settle by Bavarian immigrants, their culture, traditions and trades have been passed down through the centuries. A local docent will provide us with an enlightening tour of this quaint Bavarian Village including St Lorenz Church, the historic area, and downtown points of interest. Our home this evening is the Bavarian Inn Lodge where dinner will be Bavarian specialties served family style. 

Day 5 - Today we visited Bronner's Christmas Store, the largest Christmas store in the world! Here we  will find over five acres of displays and merchandise. Then on to Zhenders to explore their  huge bakery department before departing Frankenmuth. As we travel home with fond memories of our adventure and all or our new friends we  made along the way, we relax and play games on the bus.

The Showboat  takes on Kander and Ebb’s most  famous musical, Chicago.  In razzle dazzle, roaring twenties Chicago, married chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover. Roxie and  another  murderess  on  death row vie for the  spotlight and  the  headlines, hoping the publicity  will catapult them  to fame, freedom and successful  stage careers. Chicago should be seen by anyone who loves musicals. It is funny, charming, stirring and invigorating!

Are We There Yet?” takes a fresh  musical look at the typical American family as they embark on  “The Roller Coaster of Life.”  Every  conceivable experience  a family undergoes is hilariously brought  to life in a  madcap, bumpy , yet thoroughly  wonderful family trip! 

 

Polar Bear Express

August 23-31

Day 1 - Welcome aboard as we begin this adventure-filled journey to Northern Canada. Our first overnight stay will be in Flint, Michigan. This evening there will be time to explore Crossroads Village, take a ride on the Huckleberry Railroad or cruise Lake Mot on the Genesee Belle.

Day 2 - After breakfast we cross the border into the Canadian province of Ontario. We travel north along the shore of Lake Huron, stopping to tour one of the historic lighthouses along the way.

Day 3 - We start the day with a short drive to the community of Tobermory where we board the Chi-Cheesmaun Ferry to cross Georgian Bay to Manitoulin Island. This unique scenic region, where Native life and legend meld with European history, provides an unforgettable experience. After disembarking, we continue to the mining community of Sudbury for the rest of the day.

Day 4 - This morning we depart for the last stop on the highway, the town of Cochrane. Before leaving, we will make a photo stop at the famous Nickel Mine in Sudbury. Once in Cochrane, we will take in the Polar Bear Habitat and the Heritage Village. 

Day 5 -  We board the Polar Bear Express for the journey to  Moosonee, where  we view the vast wilderness, and incredibly beautiful countryside around us. Upon arriving we take an expedition up the Moose River to view Fossil Island, collecting shells and enjoying Indian bread and tea.

Day 6 - We board a boat for the Wilderness Excursion, Passing shipwrecks in St. James Bay, traveling to the Water Fowl Sanctuary for a guided tour of the Island's key attractions, possibly seeing a moose or white whale.  Established  as a fur trading post in 1673, historic Moose Factory Island is a unique and  exciting blend of Northern sub-artic environment and Cree culture. After our tour, we re-board the Polar Bear Express for the return trip to Cochrane with dinner onboard the train. 

Day 7 - After breakfast we travel south, returning to the state of Michigan with a box lunch along the way. We enjoy a dinner cruise through the Soo Locks and the historical Canadian Canal on the St. Mary's River.

Day 8 - The motorcoach travels across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and into Wisconsin arriving in Green Bay," Packer Land"  for our last overnight stay. The day passes by quickly as our guide turns those "Miles into Smiles"!  Tonight is our farewell dinner with all of our new traveling friends!

Day 9 - A final breakfast, then homeward bound with many new delightful memories and friends. Along the way, we stop in Beloit, Wisconsin for a tour of the Beckman Mill and a unique "Bucket Lunch." before our Polar Bear Adventure ends!

Brewer / Cub Game

We will travel to the magnificent  Miller Park in Milwaukee to watch the  Brewers and the Cubs battle it out in the last  game there for the regular season. We  have amazing seats! Tailgate party before the game included!

The Best of Ireland

October 19-27

Day 1- We overnight to Dublin relaxing and enjoying the in-flight meal and onboard entertainment.

Day 2- After arriving at the Dublin airport, collecting luggage and proceeding to the arrivals hall we will be transferred to our first hotel. This afternoon we visit the Guinness Storehouse, the birthplace of the famous pint, in the heart of Dublin. 

Day 3- After breakfast, the morning is free for shopping, sightseeing, a visit to Trinity College and the Book of Kells. In the afternoon we tour Dublin's Fair City and stop at St. Patrick's Cathedral. We pass O'Connell Street, Europe's largest street and pass Christ Church Cathedral and the Bank of Ireland, which is formerly the Irish House of Parliament. Tonight opt for an Irish Night at the Jameson's Distillery Shindig!

Day 4- We leave the city behind and travel  south through the gentle hills  of Carlow into the Viking city of Waterford where we have a guided tour of the celebrated Waterford Crystal Factory.  We continue on through Youghal, Cork, and Macroom enjoying the lush green countryside and coastal views of Ireland! Killarney is our home for the evening.

Day 5-Today is one the most scenic drives in all of Europe around the famous "Ring of Kerry" traveling along the coastline of the Iverah Peninsula through the towns of Glenbeigh, Cahirciveen, Waterville and Sneem completing the tour via "Ladies View" to Killarney. Later today is an optional Jaunting Cart Ride. Dinner is at the hotel this evening.

Day 6-We depart Killarney stopping first in the village of Blarney where we'll have the chance to kiss the Blarney Stone and receive the gift of gab with time to shop at the Blarney Woolen Mills. This afternoon we visit Bunratty Folk Park which depicts life in Ireland's past. 

Day 7-This morning we take in the spectacular breathtaking views of the mighty Cliffs of Mohr rising 700 feet above the Atlantic Ocean along over 5 miles of  the coastline. We continue on to Galway, "The City of Tribes", tour the Connemara region prior to visiting the Cathedral and Claddagh area. Tonight we enjoy a Medieval Banquet in the company of the Lords and Ladies of the Castle.

Day 8-Today we travel north along the banks of the Shannon River and stop at the monastic site of Clonmacnois, one of the best preserved monasteries founded by St Ciaran in the 6th century. We continue on though Athlone and on to the beautiful 15 century Cabra Castle, located in Kingscourt Co. Cavan. This evening we enjoy a farewell dinner at the castle.

Day 9- After breakfast, we depart for the Dublin Airport where we have time for duty free shopping before our flight home!

 

Ozark Jubilee... Branson Country Christmas

The Jubilee features some of the best entertainers in the country! Headlining the Ozark Jubilee is Branson's funniest comedian and champion fiddler player--Doofus Doolittle. Doofus will have you rolling in the aisles with his unique style of "Hillbilly Humor." You can expect some of the best fiddle music anywhere!  He has performed as a special guest of Porter Wagoner at the Grand Ole Opry!

In the second half of the show Doofus throws off the Hillbilly hat and tie and comes out as alter ego Randy Newman in one of his $5,000 custom tailored suits.  Randy  Newman, is a World Class Violinist, and has established himself as such not only in Branson, but across the country. He has preformed with such acts as Ronnie Milsap, Jimmie Rogers, Johnny Rodriguez, Mel Tillis and many, many, others.

Newman has assembled some of the very best musicians in the business to start our Christmas out  Branson Country!
